Ash Rubbing
I save the unburned pieces and ashes from each burning so that no element of the image is simply discarded. Sometimes, as in "Defining Acts," the unburned pieces are collaged onto the fire print itself. In other cases I save everything in acrylic boxes.
In these photos, I took the ashes of three figures from the "Flicker" series and methodically rubbed them into a large sheet of paper. The ashes of the three figures impregnated the paper, disappearing into an amorphous grey cloud.
The leftover pieces were again saved, to maintain the integrity of the whole.
